Angela Marulanda

I am an enthusiastic Colombian early career researcher with a focus on species interactions. My curiosity has led me to study organisms’ interactions at different levels spanning from the ecological to the molecular level. I have experience in fieldwork and experimental design, as well as fundamental skills ranging from essential methods in microbiology and cell biology to interpretation of transcriptomic and proteomic data.
During my Ph.D. I focused on immunity in sponges and the cellular and molecular basis of sponge-microbe recognition. Currently, I am interested in elucidating how microbial interactions affect ecosystem functioning, to what extent these interactions may be altered by climate change, and what consequences these perturbations might have for the health of aquatic ecosystems.
I am eager to continue discovering my career trajectory, developing as a researcher, and growing as a person, aiming to conduct research that can aid in mitigating some of the detrimental effects our aquatic ecosystems are facing.
