MSc Microbiology, Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg
BSc Microbiology, Shivaji University, Kolhapur

I am a PhD student in the BASS sub-project 1.2

My research focus is the sea-surface microlayer (SML) and exploring the microbial communities inhabiting this under-represented habitat in the pelagic environment. I find the SML intriguing with regards to the interactions between the organisms living in it, and how they survive in this extreme habitat. I hope to build our understanding of the ecological role of microbial populations in the SML in the global biogeochemical cycles and environmental phenomena. I am eager to try out new techniques, be it in the lab or bioinformatics. I am a curious and quick learner, and I like to pursue a problem to find creative solutions. My approach to everything in life is organised and meticulous, but I also like the unexpected, varied routine of a doctoral researcher. In my free time I like to read, craft and bake.
