Matthew Lawrence

I am a microbiologist with a keen interest in taking scientific discoveries from the lab to practical applications. My early career began in industrial microbiology, where I researched Single-Cell Proteins (SCP) and microbial preservation of stored agricultural produce. I later transitioned to pharmaceutical microbiology, specializing in New Product Development (NPD) to address challenges related to household pharmaceutical products.
As a member of the Pelagic Microbiology group, I am currently investigating the dynamics of microorganisms associated with the diatom Thalassiosira rotula in the North Sea under controlled laboratory conditions. This research aims to unravel the ecological processes driving interactions and their broader implications for marine biogeochemical cycles. With a background in data and project management, I integrate quantitative approaches to analyze microbial community dynamics, contributing to a deeper understanding of the role of microbial interactions in shaping marine ecosystems.
Beyond research, I am passionate about bridging the gap between microbiology and business, exploring innovative ways to apply microbiological solutions to real-world challenges. In addition to my scientific work, I am dedicated to supporting orphans through my organization, the Matthew Lawrence Foundation, where I focus on providing care, resources, and opportunities to help them thrive.
